"First in Name... First in Duty"

Hose Co. No 1's origin can be traced back to the 1840's. Originally its station was located on Main St. near the Bridge St. intersection. In 1855 its name was changed to Protection Engine Company No. 1. A hose house was built on West Bridge St. around 1864 and another was located on Broome St. In 1893 the companies name was changed to Wiley Hose Company to honor village resident William Sherman Wiley. In 1900 the plans were constructed to build a new fire house on West Bridge St. to replace the two hose houses being used at the time. In 1902 the new fire house opened and the company was incorporated as Hose Company No. 1. In 1969 the company and the Village negotiated a new station to be built on Central Ave. as the station they were in was slowly deteriorating. They moved into their new quarters in 1971. In the 1980's a double bay was added to the two double bays they already had. This is the current size of the fire house today, which is now the quarters of the CFC.

The Ladies Auxiliary was formed around 1915 with originally 17 members. Since then they supported the men, attended social events, raised money for the company and continued to grow in size.
