"Fearless and Faithful"
After joining F.N Wilson Fire Company in 1865 William Joesbury, a prominent man in Catskill at the time, left the company in 1869 to organize Citizens Hose Company No. 5. It was formed as an auxiliary to F.N. Wilson Engine Company and later incorporated in 1889. In the 1920's the F.N. Wilson Engine Company was disbanded leaving Citizens Hose to take over their responsibilities. In a tragic fire on January 15, 1935 Village Hall, the building which was used for their station, burned and their equipment and apparatus was lost. They then operated out of a nearby garage and over the next few years began to replace the equipment that was lost.
Norman Finch, the president of the company at the time, presided over a meeting held on March 29, 1943 in which the Ladies Auxiliary of Citizens Hose Company was formed. There were 24 ladies in attendance at this first meeting and positions were soon filled.
