12/5/06 - Fire rages through Summit Ave Residence.
On Tuesday December 5, 2006, at approx 3:45am the Catskill Fire Department was dispatched to a working structure fire at 6 Summit Ave. Upon arrival of the first unit the basement was fully involved. Firefighters tried to advance the hose line into the building but due to a partial roof collapse they had to retreat. As a result of the roof collapsing, they then turned to a defensive attack, fighting the fire from outside the structure instead. The fire was brought under control in about an hour and a half. Also responding to the scene were Hudson Fire, Athens Fire, West Athens Fire, the Greene County Cause and Origin Team, NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC), NYS State Police and the Catskill Police Department. At this time two teens are being charged with arson for starting this fire.

12/2/06 - Fire burns for hours before being reported.
At approx 6:00pm on Saturday December 2, 2006 the Catskill Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at Cranesville Block located at the end of Fyke Rd just outside the Village of Catskill. Upon arrival of the first unit there was a small fire in the corner of the building. After extinguishing the fire and doing an initial observation of the scene it was apparent that the fire had been burning for some time and had completely destroyed the building. At that time the chief in charge requested the Greene County Cause and Origin Team, who then requested the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control(OFPC). Firefighters remained on the scene for hours while investigators tried to determine the cause of the fire. At this time the fire is still under investigation.
