December 2008 - CFC Purchases New Ladder Truck
The Catskill Fire Company has purchased a 2008 refurbished Model 95 Aerial Platform. It features a Cummins 425HP Engine, Allison EVS 3000 Transmission, Hale 1500 GPM Pump, 300-gallon water tank, Whelen LED emergency lighting, and much more.
Delivery is expected in 8 - 12 weeks.

10/10/08 - Catskill Fire Assists West Athens Fire at AAPI
West Athens Fire and Catskill Ambulance were dispatched by Greene County 911 Oct 10, 2008 at approx 1300 hrs. for a multi car AAPI with reported serious injuries and entrapment. Upon arrival of C27-0 West Athens Fire Chief advised Greene County 911 of a multi vehicle AAPI with entrapment and requested Catskill Fire mutual aid with Rescue 3-16 to the scene. Catskill Fire arrived on scene and assisted West Athens Fire and Catskill ambulance members with scene security, traffic control and patient extrication. Catskill Fire did not use any extrication equipment due to the patients condition and a rapid extrication was performed. There were a total of 11 patients with five of them being transported to the hospital. One patient was transported by helicopter to Albany Medical Center.

9/27/08 - Catskill Fire Assists Leeds Fire at a Residential/Commercial Structure Fire
Leeds Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 for a reported structure fire smoke from the second floor at the old Betty's restaurant on Rt23B (Main St) Leeds Saturday Sept. 27, 2008 at approx 1615hrs. Leeds Fire ETA 17-1 arrived on scene and reported a working structure fire and requested Catskill Fire dispatched with T3-15 to the scene. Also, requested to the scene was West Athens Fire with manpower. The fire was contained to the second floor rear apartment with smoke and water damage to the entire building noted.

08/21/08 - Commercial & Residential Building Drill
Catskill Fire drilled at the old House of Video store on Central Ave used several different techniques. Members of the Department got a chance to try some firefighter survival, search and rescue and advancing hose line techniques. The building was donated to the Fire Department by the new owner before the scheduled demolition to make way for a new commercial building. The building consisted of a commercial setting of the ground level and a residential setting above. With the commercial part of the building members got a chance to search a large open building that most firefighters don't have a chance to deal with. Also, members had a chance to flow water with the Department's new Task Force Blitz ground monitor. This device will be a great piece of equipment added to the department's inventory.
08/21/08 - AAPI Route 23 & Route 9W (North) off ramp
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 for a reported AAPI at the intersection of Route 23 and the Route 9W (north) off ramp in the Town of Catskill. Upon arrival of the Fire Department all victims were out of the vehicle and being treated by EMS. Catskill Fire performed traffic control and assisted EMS. One victim was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital by Catskill Ambulance for minor injuries.
New York State Police Troop "F" investigated the accident.
Catskill Fire Police and Catskill Police Department assisted.
08/20/08 - AAPI Rip Van Winkle Bridge Columbia County.
The Greenport Fire Dept, Catskill Fire Dept, Greenport Rescue & Catskill Ambulance were dispatched by Columbia County 911 and Greene County 911 for a reported 2 car A/A P/I with possible entrapment on the Rip Van Winkle Bridge the Columbia County side.
Upon arrival of both fire and EMS units it was found that one vehicle had stopped along side the road due to mechanical problems and another vehicle rear ended the vehicle on the side the road. It was determined there were a total of four patients involved. Three of the victims were trapped in the vehicle and needed to be extricated. Catskill Fire and Greenport Fire/Rescue performed extrication to remove all victims from the vehicle. Catskill Ambulance and Greenport Rescue transported 3 out of the 4 victims to the hospital. Albany Med-Flight transported one victim to Albany Medical Center with an open fracture to the lower leg.
The New York State Police Troop "K" investigated.
Catskill Fire Police, & Catskill Police Dept., also assisted at the scene.

7/27/08 - Catskill Fire Responds to a Rollover with Possible Entrapment
A car accident at the intersection of Route 23 and Route 385 on Sunday July 27, 2008 brought out the Catskill Fire Dept. & Catskill Ambulance. Greene County 911 Dispatched Catskill Fire & Catskill Ambulance at approx 1230 in the afternoon for a reported AAPI rollover with possible entrapment. Catskill Fire arrived on the scene and reported (1) vehicle to be rolled over with a male subject still in the vehicle. Catskill Fire stabilized the vehicle and removed the front window of the vehicle and removed the victim.
The Catskill Police Department investigated the accident.
Catskill Fire Police assisted with traffic.
07/26/08 - Ulster County Convention
The Catskill Fire Company decided to attend the Ulster County Convention this year to have more Out-Of-County Competition. It proved to be a good decision as they represented the department well and brought home 4 trophies:

- 1st Place Out-of-County Apparatus
- 2nd Place Out-of County Apparatus
Thanks to all those who were able to help out and parade. Don't forget the Greene County Convention will be held in Athens this year. The Mardi Gras parade will take place Friday September 5, 2008 at 6:30pm, and the dress parade will be Saturday September 6, 2008 at 1:00pm.
7/10/08 - Catskill Fire Responds to a Motorcycle Accident
Catskill Fire, Catskill Ambulance and Greene County Paramedic were dispatched by Greene 911 for a motorcycle accident on the on ramp from Rt9W south to Rt23 July 10, 2008 at 0848 hrs. Catskill Fire responded with E3-21, Rescue 3-16 and (2) chief units. Catskill Fire assisted EMS with traffic at the scene.
Catskill Ambulance transported the victim to Columbia Memorial Hospital to be evaluated.
New York State Police investigated the accident.
7/2/08 - Catskill Fire Responds to an Accident on Route 23A
At 1656 hours on July 2, 2008 Greene County 911 dispatched Catskill Fire, Catskill Ambulance, Greene County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police to a reported accident on Route 23A in the Town of Catskill west of the Village of Catskill.
The operator was treated and transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital by Catskill Ambulance and Greene County Medic. Greene County Sheriff's Office investigated the accident.

6/21/08 - Catskill Fire Responds to a One Car Rollover
A one car rollover on Toolhouse Road in the Town of Catskill brought out Catskill Firefighters on June 20 at approx 1445hrs. The accident was down the road from the Town of Catskill Highway garage and along side the NYS Thuway. 2 Catskill Ambulances and a Greene County Paramendic responded and transported 2 subjects to CMH in Hudson. The New York State Police Troop F investigated.

6/19/08 - Catskill Fire Responds to a 2 Alarm Basement Fire
At 1352 hours on Thursday June 19, 2008 the Catskill Fire Department was alerted for a possible structure fire with smoke detectors going off and smoke in the basement at 12 Wildwing Park in the Town of Catskill. Car 3-20 arrived on the scene and was advised by Lt. Rivenburgh that all occupants were out of the residence and there was heavy smoke showing with fire in the basement of a 2 1/2 story single family wood framed dwelling. Car 3-20 advised Greene County 911 of a working structure fire and assumed command and requested Greene County 911 drop a 2nd alarm for Catskill Fire and requested Athens ETA 2-4 with manpower to the scene. T3-15 arrived on the scene right behind C3-20 and positioned on the "A" side of the structure and went to work splitting the crew for fire suppression and ventilation. T3-15 deployed 3 hose lines with (1) 1.75 being deployed to the basement. There was (1) additional 1.75 line deployed to the front door of the residence as a backup line and (1) 2 1/2 inch line deployed to the rear of the structure. E3-1 responding shortly thereafter on the "A" side of the structure dropping a 5 inch LDH and went to the green top plug located at the Rt23B and Wildwing Park intersection. T3-15's fire suppression team encountered a small fire in the basement of the 2 1/2 story residence. Within 12 minutes of the Department arriving units reported the fire knocked down to command. E3-1's crew after setting up the engine at the plug was directed to conduct overhaul in the basement and to check for extension to the first floor. Once Athens Fire arrived on the scene they were placed into operations and assigned to the 2nd floor and attic to check for extension. No fire extension noted to the 1st, 2nd and attic area. The fire was determined to have started in the basement from a dehumidifier.

6/17/08 - Catskill Fire Responds To Auto Accident Car vs. House
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 at approx 130 pm Tuesday June 17 for a auto accident vehicle into a house at 190 Water Street in the Village of Catskill. On first dispatch it was reported that the vehicle was on fire and it was unknown if there were any injuries. Catskill Fire responded to the call with (1) engine & (1) rescue. Once on the scene it was determined that there was no fire. It was also determined that there were minor injuries and the patients were being treated by Catskill Ambulance. The crew from E3-21 and Rescue 3-16 stabilized the vehicle and building to mitigate the vehicle and building hazards. Catskill car 3-20 ran command for the incident. All Catskill Fire units were in service at 230 pm.
6/10/08 - Catskill Fire responds to multiple storm related calls
Catskill Fire was dispatched June 10, 2008 by Greene County 911 for several storm related calls. The first call was for a tree and wires down on Snake Rd and just four minutes after the Snake Rd call, Catskill Fire was requested to the area of 33 Broome St in the Village for a tree down with wires arcing. Catskill Fire cleared the calls after there were no hazards noted and Central Hudson arrived on scene.
At about 2045 hrs Catskill Fire was again alerted to several more storm related calls ranging from a fire alarm activation, unknown type fire and tree/wires down. All Catskill Fire units were back in service about 2 hrs later. The unknown type fire came in at about 2105 hrs for a report of a large fire to the rear of a structure near 60 Broad Street in the Village of Catskill. After investigating the matter it was found that a subject used to much lighter fluid too start a BBQ.
At 2245 hrs Catskill Fire was dispatched for a 2nd alarm assignment structure fire standby in the City of Hudson's Central Station firehouse. The City of Hudson was operating a working structure fire at the Bates and Anderson funeral home on Green St. Catskill Fire responded to the standby with T3-15 & E3-21. All Catskill Fire units were back in service at 0105 hrs.

5/30/08 - Catskill Fire handles mid afternoon vehicle fire
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 Friday May 30th, 2008 at approx. 1615 hrs for a reported car fire at the intersection of Spring and Bridge St in the Village of Catskill. Catskill Police Dept. was first to arrive on scene and reported a working vehicle fire. Catskill Command 3-10 requested E3-21 and Rescue 3-16 to respond.
5/15/08 - Catskill Fire Responds to Possible Structure Fire
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 on May 15, 2008 at approx 12:40 in the afternoon for a possible structure fire at 5 Liberty St in the Village of Catskill. The alarm came in as a fire in the wall of the single family dwelling. While enroute to the call Greene County 911 received a call from the Catskill Police Dept. advising that there was no smoke or fire present. Catskill Fire units arrived on scene and started to investigate the residence. After a walk through of the residence it was determined that one of the electrical sockets in the hallway failed after one of the residence tried to plug something into it. No extension was noted to the building and all Catskill units were back in service 15 minutes after the alarm was transmitted.

5/11/08 - Catskill Fire handles multiple vehicles on fire in the Wal-mart Parking lot
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 Sunday May 11, 2008 at 1117am for a reported well involved vehicle fire in the Wal-mart parking lot. Upon arrival of the first unit it was noticed that there were multiple vehicle on fire. Command was established by Catskill C3-20 and requested E3-21, ETA3-12 and Rescue 3-16 respond to the scene. The fire was knocked down quickly with a total of 2 vehicle being destroyed. There were also 2 victims who were transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital for burns.

5/11/08 - Catskill Fire assists with search of missing teenager
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 Sunday May 11th, 2008 to assist NYSP with a search for a missing teenager at the Holcim cement quarries off of Route 9W in the Town of Catskill.
Members of the New York State Police, NYS Forestry Department, Catskill Fire Department and the West Athens Fire Department searched for approx 4 hours Sunday with negative findings. The search was called off at approx. 2030hrs Sunday due to darkness and rescheduled to begin 0700 Monday. Monday morning a search detail was again started up with more then 50 volunteer firefighters participating. The firefighters assembled at the Catskill west side station for a briefing by the Incident Commander Floyd Prince Jr. and the NYS Forestry Department. After the briefing members moved to the Holcim quarries to begin searching again for the missing teenager. After approx. 45 min of searching the detail was called off by the NYS Police after finding the teenager. The teenager was found deceased. A helicopter, canine units and several ATV's were also used during the search.

4/30/08 - Catskill Fire drills with new Rescue Jacks
Members of the Catskill Fire Dept. had a chance to drill with the new Junkyard Dog Rescue Jacks Sunday April 27, 2008. The drill took place at a local junkyard within Catskill. Members also had a chance to use all the Holmatro extrication equipment that is on Rescue 3-16.
The rescue jacks are not only for auto accidents but can be used during structure fires as well as building collapses. The jacks were purchased after a year long study on different rescue jacks. After the study was completed by the Officers and members of the Department it was determined that the Junkyard Dog Rescue Jacks were the easiest and the lightest to use. The jacks are kept on Rescue 3-16 with all the other extrication equipment.
4/17/08 - Catskill Fire responds mutual aid to Leeds for MVA with entrapment
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 Thursday April 17th, 2008 for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on the NYS Thruway. The accident was in the Leeds Fire District and after confirmation of entrapment requested Catskill Fire with Rescue 3-16 and extrication equipment. The accident occurred near the on ramps to both the southbound and north bound lanes.
4/10/08 - Catskill Fire does morning weekday drill.
To make sure that all Catskill Fire Department members are up to date on their training the Officers of the Catskill Fire Department hold a morning drill once a month. The April drill was on April 10, 2008 at 0900 a.m. and started out with a round table discussion on hose applications and engine company operations. After the round table session members proceeded to Dutchmen's Landing to place what they learned into effect. Truck operators got a chance to draft and pump water. Firefighters had a chance to use different types of hose lines and devices from 1 3/4 hose lines to deck guns.

4/08/08 - Catskill Fire handles Garage & Brush Fire
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 at 1915 hrs on April 8, 2008 for a reported brush and structure fire at 2718 Old Kings Road in the Town of Catskill. The fire was spotted by a passerby who called Greene County 911 to report the incident. Catskill C3-20 arrived on scene to find a brush fire which extended to a (1) car garage filled with misc. items. Upon the arrival of the first unit ETA 3-12 the entire garage was fully involved and impinging a second structure. Members deployed (2) 1 3/4 hand lines which knocked down the fire and stop the fire from extending to structure "B". There were no injuries reported.

3/29/08 - Catskill Fire tackles minor structure/chimney fire
Catskill Fire was dispatched at approx. 0911hrs by Greene County 911 for a reported chimney fire at 283 Main St in the Village of Catskill. The fire was mostly contained to the chimney with minor extension to the building and there were no injuries reported. Athens Fire was dispatched to the scene to assist with suppression and overhaul. Catskill Ambulance and Catskill Police Dept were also on the scene. Units were back in service at approx 1200.

3/21/08 - Motor Vehicle Accident Rollover with Possible Entrapment
Greene County 911 received a report of a 1 car rollover AAPI with entrapment at approx 1530hrs on March 21, 2008. The accident was on the New York State Thruway at mile post 107 southbound. Units from Catskill Fire, Catskill Ambulance and Greene County EMS were dispatched. One subject was extricated out of the vehicle by several passing motorists before Fire and EMS arrived. Catskill Fire assisted EMS with patient care and traffic control. NYS Police Troop "T" is investigating the accident.
3/19/08 - Catskill Fire responds to a serious motor vehicle accident with injuries
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 at 1532 hrs on March 19th, 2008 for a reported 1 car motor vehicle accident with 1 subject unresponsive on Route 23A in the Town of Catskill. Upon arrival of Catskill Fire C3-30 Jon Dees found a 1 car MVA rollover with 2 patients still in the vehicle not trapped. The vehicle was found in the upright position and was determined to have rolled while airborne. Catskill Ambulance along with Greene EMS removed the patients and transported them to Albany Medical Center for evaluation. Catskill Fire assisted EMS with patient removal, securing utilities to the vehicle, & assisted NYSP with traffic control.

3/18/08 - Catskill Fire Dispatched to Structure Fire
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 at 1800 hrs to 408 West Bridge St March 18, 2008 for a reported structure fire (fire in the bedroom). Upon arrival of Catskill Fire C3-10 Floyd Prince found the residence to be fully evacuated with a minor smoke condition inside the residence. The first due unit T3-15 was assigned to investigate the cause of the fire & fire suppression. T3-15's crew found the cause of the fire to be an overloaded electrical outlet in a bedroom. There was no fire extension to the building and all the objects that were plugged into the outlet were removed from the bedroom and placed outside. E3-21's crew was assigned to ventilation and Rescue 3-16's crew was assigned to scene support. All Catskill units were in service 1828hrs.

2/28/08 - Catskill Fire responds to a MVA rollover
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 for a MVA tractor trailer rollover on the NYS Thruway Thursday February 28,
2008 at approx 09:25 hrs. Catskill Car 3-20 arrived on scene and reported that the driver of the tractor trailer was trapped in the
vehicle. Car 3-20 also advised Greene County 911 that the accident was in the Leeds Fire District and requested Leeds Fire be dispatched. Before Catskill Fire or Leeds Fire units arrived on scene the driver of the vehicle was self extricated with no injuries reported.
The tractor trailer had the both lanes in the northbound direction blocked for some time until a tow agency could upright the
vehicle. Leeds Fire remained on scene to assist NYSP and the Thruway with traffic control. Catskill Fire was released by Leeds Command
approx 1hr and a half after the accident.

2/22/08 - Catskill Fire has a busy Friday
On Friday Feb 22, 2008 at approx. 0230hrs Catskill Fire was dispatched for a smoke alarm activation at 65 Summit Ave in the Village of Catskill. Catskill Fire Asst. Chief Jack Ormerod arrived and was informed by the Catskill Police Dept. that the upstairs floor of a multi family residence was full of smoke. Asst. Chief Jack Ormerod requested T3-15 and E3-21 respond. After investigating it was found that one of the tenants had burned food in the upstairs apartment. Catskill Fire performed ventilation before being placed back in service.

At approx. 0610hrs Catskill Fire was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident. It was reported to be a property damage accident with subjects trapped in the vehicle. The accident occurred on State Route 385 on the Catskill/Athens town line. Upon arrival, Asst. Chief Jack Ormerod found a vehicle off the road and slightly hanging over a ledge. Chief Ormerod requested Rescue 3-16 to respond. Once Rescue 3-16 arrived the portable winch was deployed to stabilize the vehicle and all victims were removed without injuries. Once the victims were removed the scene was turned over to a tow agency and law enforcement.

While operating at the MVA on Rt385 Catskill Fire was dispatched to another motor vehicle accident personal injury on State Route 23A near Toolhouse Road in the Town of Catskill. Catskill Car 3-20 Jack Ormerod arrived on scene and found a 2 car MVA with 1 subject seriously injured. Asst. Chief Ormerod requested Rescue 3-16 and E3-21 respond. Asst. Chief Ormerod also request that Greene County Paramedic be dispatched. Due to the extent of injuries it was determined to perform a rapid extrication of the seriously injured victim. Once the extrication was completed the victim was transported to Albany Medical Center via Catskill Ambulance.

Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 at approx 1320hrs on a request from Athens Fire for a reported motor vehicle accident personal injury on State Route 385. Catskill Fire was dispatched because there were conflicting reports that the accident was in the Catskill Fire District. Athens Fire arrived and confirmed that the accident was in the Town of Athens. Rescue 3-16 called on standby and was clear moments later.
2/14/08 - Catskill Fire A Serious Water Incident
At approx 0145 hrs February 14, 2008 Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 for an alarm activation at 12 Pavilion
Court the Pavilion Nursing Home Jefferson Hgts Town of Catskill. Upon arrival of Catskill C3-30 Jon Dees found a serious water emergency
(sprinkler line broken) in the ceiling. Car 3-30 assumed operations and requested the crews from T3-15 and E3-21 start the evacuation and
to secure the broken water line in the ceiling.
On request from the Operations Sector Chief, Jon Dees requested the Incident Commander Floyd Prince strike a second alarm for all
available manpower and Rescue 3-16 from Catskill respond.
During the incident the Operations Chief noticed a haze in the corridor were the water line broke. The haze was from a small
electrical fire in the same area of the water line break. Crews assigned to secure the water line also performed fire suppression. The
fire was quickly extinguished and the electric was turned off to the corridor where the water break occurred. Once the broken water line
was secured the ceiling was pulled to drain the water and to check for fire extension.
There was a total of 5 rooms that were compromised by the water line break and the residence were relocated to different rooms in
the facility.
There were no reported injuries during the incident.

2/10/08 - Catskill Fire Handles C/O problem
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 Sunday Feb 10, 2008 at approx 1730hrs for a C/O problem at 31 William St in
the Village of Catskill. Upon arrival of C3-30, command was established. T3-15 and Rescue 3-16 were the two units assigned to handle the
alarm. T3-15's crew consisting of Driver/Operator Richard Overbaugh, FF George Lackie, FF Chad Turzcyn and F.F Jon Watson were on scene minutes after the arrival of C3-30 and were assigned to operations inside the building. The operations crew discovered elevated C/O levels in the residence. Operations reported to command levels to exceed 30 ppm. Command requested Central Hudson to the scene due to a possible
malfunctioning furnace. Rescue 3-16's crew consisting of Driver/Operator Paul Ormerod Sr, FF Randy Ormerod, FF Dave Cramer and FF Sandy Woodruff were assigned the task of scene support while the operations crew were inside the residence.
The reason for the C/O problem was confirmed to be a malfunctioning gas feed furnace and the scene was turned over to Central
Hudson. The residence of the house were relocated to the neighbors residence for the night.

2/08/08 - Catskill Fire Sets up Landing Zone
Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene
County 911 to set up a landing zone at Dutchmen's landing in the Village of Catskill Friday Feb 8, 2008 at approx. 1000 a.m. for an
inbound medivac helicopter. The helicopter was requested by a Greene County Paramedic and Greenport Rescue for an elderly female stroke victim.

2/01/08 - Catskill Fire handles two gas calls on West Bridge Street
Catskill Fire was dispatched by
Greene County 911 January 29, 2008 at 1226 hrs for a reported gas odor inside a
residential/commercial building at 37 West Bridge St. in the Village of Catskill. Command was established by Catskill Car 3-20 who
requested the response of T3-15 and E3-21. Crews from T3-15 and E3-21 checked the downstairs business with negative findings of any
natural gas. Crews also checked the residence above the store with negative findings as well. Command was terminated and all Catskill
units were back in service at 1306 hrs.
Catskill Fire was dispatched again by Greene County 911 for another gas odor/leak at 75 West Bridge St., a residential building
in the Village of Catskill at 1429 hrs. Command was established by Catskill Car 3-30 who advised that a furnace rep was on scene and
smelled gas inside the residence. Command requested the response of T3-15 and E3-21 to the scene. Crews from T3-15 and E3-21 investigated
and requested Command to call for the response of Central Hudson. The building was ventilated by the Fire Dept prior to the arrival of
Central Hudson. Once Central Hudson arrived the building was turned over to them and all Catskill units were in service at 1547 hrs.
January
1/26/08 - Catskill Fire responds to a reported structure fire (trailer)
Catskill Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire (trailer) by Greene Cty 911 Friday Jan 25, 2008 on State Rt. 9W on the Catskill/Athens town line. Upon arrival of Catskill Command C3-20 Jack Ormerod Sr. found a large amount of rubbish and trash burning behind an occupied trailer with possible extension to the trailer. Catskill Command requested ETA3-12 and ETA3-11 to handle the alarm and have remaining units standby in quarters.
ETA 3-12's crew consisting of Chauffeur/Operator Overbaugh, R, Officer Lt. Rivenburgh, H, FF Ormerod, R and FF Sheil, B were assigned to fire suppression and to check for extension to the trailer. FF Ormerod, R and FF Sheil, B completed fire suppression while Lt. Rivenburgh checked for extension inside the trailer. ETA 3-11 and its crew consisting of Chauffeur/Operator Dolan, E and FF Hack, G also assisted ETA 3-12's crew with fire suppression and overhaul. Fire suppression was completed using a water can and a 1 3/4 hand line. All Catskill Fire units were back in service at 1152 hrs.

1/15/08 - Catskill Fire handles a serious C/O problem
At approx 1800 hrs on Jan 14, 2008 Catskill Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 for a C/O problem with no ill effects @ 113 North Street in the Village of Catskill. Catskill C3-30 Asst. Chief Jon Dees was First Officer to arrive on scene and assumed command and reported to Greene County 911 that he had a full evacuation of a 2 story wood framed single family dwelling. C3-30 requested first due unit in T3-15 and its crew to respond to the front of the house with full protective gear, SCBA and meters. Rescue 3-16, 2nd due unit in was requested to stage at the intersection of North and High Street. Rescue 3-16's crew was ordered to the front of the residence with full protective gear, SCBA and the spare C/O meter. T3-15's crew consisting of Lt. Ormerod, P, Lt. Rivenburgh, H and FF Watson, J were assigned by command to go to the basement of the structure and to monitor the C/O levels. It was in the basement that the highest readings were found of C/O, exceeding 100 PPM. Rescue 3-16's crew consisting of FF Ormerod, R and FF Sheil, B were assigned by command to take readings on the 1st and 2nd floors of the structure. The first floor had elevated C/O levels of 64 PPM. Once the elevated levels were confirmed all gas appliances were shut down and a request for Central Hudson was made by Command. Central Hudson rep arrived on scene and found that a malfunctioning furnace and a plugged exhaust pipe caused the elevated levels of C/O.
The residence were taken by Catskill Ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation after being exposed to elevated levels of C/O. At no time were any of the residence complaining of any symptoms. The building was ventilated by the Fire Department and turned over to Central Hudson and a private contractor to repair the furnace. Catskill Fire operated at the scene for approx. 2hrs monitoring the air and ventilating the residence.

1/12/08 - Catskill Fire catches mutual aid structure fire in the Village of Athens
At approx. 1220 hrs on Jan. 11, 2008 Athens Fire was dispatched by Greene County 911 for a reported possible structure fire, smoke coming from a light fixture at 3 South Franklin St in the Village of Athens. Athens Car 2-10 was the first unit on the scene and reported a working structure fire with heavy smoke pushing from the building. Athens Car 2-30 then requested Catskill Fire with Engine 3-21 and Rescue 3-16, West Athens Fire with ETA27-4 and M27-6 to the scene.
Upon arrival of the mutual aid companies Athens Fire members were inside the structure performing fire suppression. West Athens Fire and Catskill Fire members assisted Athens fire with fire suppression and horizontal ventilation. Members of the Catskill Fire Department were assigned to the roof to perform vertical ventilation. Athens Fire ETA2-4 was assigned to the address and was supplied by a 5" inch LDH line from ETA2-1. Catskill T3-15 was assigned to do roof ventilation and was set up on the A-D corner of the structure next to E2-4. Catskill Engine 3-21 was redirected to the alley way to the C-side of the building for precautionary reasons.
